Challenge : What is a website that you cannot live without? Tell about your favorite features and how you use it in your teaching and learning.
ReadWorks.org - This is an equally great website and I really like that the questions are grade appropriate and you can separate them by question type. I enjoy pulling these text for fiction and nonfiction passages. I also think that the lesson plans are great as well, they do a really good job of helping students understand the concept.

Day 19 - Blogging Challenge
Challenge : Share a topic/idea from class this week. What's one thing you did with students this week that you will (or will not) do again? Why?
We are finishing up our jigsaw with varying versions of Cinderella. I believe that when we do this again, I would like for my students to decide where to stop and summarize and allow them to make that decision. I believe this was a great activity. I do know that I will teach a more in-depth lesson about how to identify a theme of a text as they don't quite understand that concept yet. Otherwise it was great!

Day 18 - Blogging Challenge
Challenge : Tell about a favorite book to share or teach. Provide at least one example of an extension or cross curricular lesson.
In the past I've used Holes, I take a lot of information from that and the students build model caps and create keys and a guide. We talk about the weather and demonstrating what that hole would look like using measuring techniques. This year will be the first year that we didn't do Holes, I've always enjoyed it in the past however I've tried a lot more new things this year than in the past.

Day 17 - Blogging Challenge
Challenge : Share all of your professional social media contact info and links. How do you engage in social media for professional learning?
Twitter : tchndevo
LinkIn : dhampton-williams@rock.k12.nc.us
Edmodo : DeVona Hampton-Williams (raiderdevo - if it let's you search by username)
I haven't really started with my linkedin not really sure how that works. I use my twitter to engage in articles that relate to my professional growth. I also enjoy quotes and other things that are calming and positive. Edmodo I ABSOLUTELY love the Language Arts group as I find AMAZING resources to use in this group with my students and peers.

Day 16 - Blogging Challenge
Challenge : Have you ever earned a grant? What was it for? Who was it from? What tips might you offer for someone seeking a grant?
Unfortunately I've not written a grant, although I'm in the progress of one. I will come back and update this when and if I get funded! I'm excited.

Day 15 - Blogging Challenge
Challenge: What would be one (or two) items on your classroom wishlist? Why? How might you get this item?
My ONE item would be an Ipad, I've discovered so many applications that will help my students when I do stations that will allow them to get help with reading. I am planning to write a proposal for DonorsChoose to get the Ipad, worse case scenario I will buy it myself.

Day 14 - Blogging Challenge
Challenge : Share a topic/idea from class this week. What's one thing you did with students this week that you will (or will not) do again? Why?
Considering we missed so much school last week I only had one day with my students and that one day was the prediction activity with the Thinking Maps. However I do plan to try them in a Jigsaw with Summarizing! This will be a little less guided by me and a little more independent with them. I'm excited to see how well they do with this activity as I believe they can really do well when challenged!

Day 13 - Blogging Challenge
Challenge : Tell about a favorite book to share or teach. Provide at least one example of an extension or cross-curricular lesson.
The Lorax!!! I bring in the Lorax when my team member talks about Earth Science. We will read the story, watch the movie and then the students will do projects based on something they were going to remove from Earth and put something in place of it and see how it effects the Earth, positively and negatively. They enjoy this and can often make connections between my ELA class and Science class.
